On 17th April 2025, Kedah Agro Ausin Berhad (KAAB) had the opportunity to participate in a field visit to China hosted by Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) to study ratoon paddy cultivation technology. Our team accompanied the former advisor to the Minister of Agriculture to gain first-hand exposure to this sustainable rice farming method.
FAFU is located in Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian, China. Renowned for its strengths in agricultural and forestry sciences as well as life sciences.
Discussion among KAAB and FAFU at paddy field
The visit provided valuable insights into China’s successful implementation of ratoon cropping—a technique that allows rice farmers to achieve a second harvest from the same planting cycle without replanting. The system improves land and water efficiency, lowers labor and input costs, and enhances overall productivity. What was particularly impressive was how mechanization and precision farming have been integrated to make the method scalable for commercial application.
Discussion in meeting hall at FAFU
KAAB also took part in a meaningful discussion with FAFU, where insights sharing sessions emphasized the role of research and innovation in transforming food systems. The exchange of ideas highlighted the relevance of adapting science-based practices to meet local agricultural challenges.
